Took the ride on Friday (or was it?). The dyno was impressive. The readout was on an LCD screen. It showed rpm, speed, o-60 (mph I presume), max power etc.
Nice dyno. It was a bit overwhelming, to actually let the feeling sink in that you're doin a dyno run in India, in a Company Showroom. Nice.
About the test ride, not a good concept. But considering other manufacturers (even international) don't allow test rides for the bikes on the road, it gives you *some* relief. I was not given a test ride on the Karizma till I put my money down for one (2 years after its launch). Can't comment much on most aspects of the bike due to limitations to the functionality of a dyno.
Here's what I CAN comment on.
- Beautiful bike. Very Very good package. Remarkable goodies.
- 0-60mph (unless it was kph) on the dyno said 11.## sec (I wasn't really aiming for it). This is fast(unless it's in kph, not really sure, cos it was a recorded statistic from my many runs and I never really went for a 0-60 sprint, I was kicking the shit out of gear 1 for most time to try to get max power figure).
- Max power figure I could get was 12 rwhp. Now this is far from accurate, cos god knows how bajaj have tweaked the dyno. Moreover, the power above 8k rpm fell to 2-4 rwhp. No power curves on display. :(
- One thing I didn't do was tally the on-screen speed to the speedo indicated speed. (Could someone fill in the missing details here please?!)
- Seat is super comfortable. Ditto for pillion.
- Exhaust sound *seems* nice.
- Riding position very nice.
- Exhaust styling not to my liking.
- Nice tankpad.
- 10k more than a Pulsar 180, 10k less than a Karizma.
Bajaj have made the probiking showrooms into something really nice. They've got a really REALLY *cough*bullshit*cough* long advert of the old 180, and that maybe updated soon enogh.
The bike isn't up for delivery in Navi Mumbai yet, but orders are being taken. This is one bike to watch out for.
After the p220 has been hogging the limelight, this is the worthy upgrade to 180 to watch out for. I like.
Cheers,
Manas Karekar.

No bike showroom in the country owns a dyno apart from arai, bike manufacturers and racing teams.
The bike sat on a 'roller bench',which gives out max speed,0-60 and mileage figures.
I dunno if it was a roller bench or what cause it showed the power figures too. Unless they use some different method to calculate power, I don't see how it's different.
Another Bajaj bike which would look great, make lotsya noise, both from the exhaust and engine and will be disdainfully slow..I will bet it will be slower than your Karizma! Another cowdung by another Indian bike maker..!
Dyno can show torque figures through the rev range and they are expensive to own.

BTW,12RWHP?that's less than zma's 14.XX
PS.am facing problem with my net connection, might have posted this reply more than once.
Pradeep: That link didn't have info about bench rollers. I know what a dyno is and what a dyno does. I don't know what a bench roller is and what it does.
But if the power was being showed instantaneously on screen, I reckon it could very well be printed out, IF, the Bajaj guys wanted it to be printed out. The curves may NOT be displayed by Bajaj because it's not a dyno test, it's a test ride.
but I am not disputing your judgement, just gimme good a reason (difference between the two)
key word is cost incurred to own one.
Imagine buying dynos in bulk and cost inovlved.
Anyhow, lets keep that aside and talk about RWHP made by this bike,12RWHP?
Even the p180 makes 12rwhp.Hope that extra 20 does something.
Manas,
If am not wrong......u had the test ride @ the vashi probiking showroom right....... and when I was there...... the dyno had kmph metering.....
And as u say u forgot to check/tally the bike speedo with the dyno speedo....."One thing I didn't do was tally the on-screen speed to the speedo indicated speed.".......... the front wheel of the bike was stationary man.......how can one checkout the speeds on the bike's speedo?? :)
